The amounts are far higher than reported by the United Nations Office on Drugs and Crime (UNODC), and are flourishing in areas controlled by Burmas military regime, not in the ceasefire areas claimed by the UN. This report of Palaung Womens Organization (PWO) also explains how the government authorities, so-called anti-drug teams are making profits from extortion of opium farmers. Population of men over the age of 15 addicted to opium is claimed increased significantly from 2007 to 2009 in the report.
