| บทคัดย่อ |
Summary: October 1944, Auschwitz-Birkenau. Saul Ausländer is a Hungarian member of the Sonderkommando, the group of Jewish prisoners isolated from the camp and forced to assist the Nazis in the machinery of large-scale extermination. While working in one of the crematoriums, Saul discovers the body of a boy he takes for his son. As the Sonderkommando plans a rebellion, Saul decides to carry out an impossible task: save the child's body from the flames, find a rabbi to recite the mourner's Kaddish. |

Summary: ภาพยนตร์นั้นบอกเล่าถึงเรื่องราวเดือนตุลาคมปี 1944 ช่วงเวลาอันมืดหม่นของสงครามโลกครั้งที่ 2 ชาอูล ออสแลนเดอ (เกซา เรอห์ริก) เป็นชาวยิวฮังกาเรียนที่ถูกทหารนาซีจับตัวไปอยู่ในค่ายกักกันเอาช์วิตซ์ ค่ายที่ถือได้ว่าใหญ่และโหดร้ายป่าเถื่อนที่สุดในค่ายกักกันแห่งนั้น ชาอูลถูกสั่งให้ใช้แรงงานในแผนกฌาปนกิจ นั่นก็คือ การทำลายศพของนักโทษยิวที่ตายหลังจากถูกส่งตัวไปสังหารหมู่ในห้องรมแก๊สพิษ วันนั้นก็เหมือนๆ กับทุกวัน ชาอูลและเพื่อนๆ ต้องขนศพไปทำลาย แต่มันต่างกันตรงที่...มีศพเด็กชายคนหนึ่ง ซึ่งชาอูลเชื่อว่า มันคือศพของลูกชายของเขา ชาอูลฝังใจเหลือเกินตั้งแต่พลัดพรากกับลูกชายในช่วงโดนกวาดต้อนเมื่อหลายปีก่อน ว่าตนเองเป็นพ่อที่เลว ไม่เคยได้มีโอกาสดูแลลูก เพราะฉะนั้น นี่จะเป็นโอกาสแก้ตัวครั้งสุดท้ายที่พระเจ้าประทานให้กับเขา ชาอูลตัดสินใจขโมยศพเด็กคนนั้นมา เพื่อนำไปประกอบพิธีทางศาสนาให้ถูกต้อง แต่ในค่ายกักกันอันแสนหฤโหด และมีทหารนาซีรักษาการณ์อย่างแน่นหนา ความตั้งใจของชาอูลในครั้งนี้ จึงเดิมพันด้วยชีวิต |
